1. ENJOY IT
Find something you truly enjoy that makes you feel great and energetic in the morning. Walking? Running? Skipping the rope? Dancing to music? Do whatever makes you happy and feels good. The key is to move your body. Don't over think it, just do it.
2. ONE STEP AT A TIME
Don't focus on working out for an hour or running a marathon right off the start. Do what you can each and every day - follow your body and do what feels good. The length of your workout doesn't matter. At first, the key is to create a new habit. Get into the habit of getting out of bed and moving your body to get the blood flowing. Even if all you can do is 10 jumping jacks, pat yourself on the back and call it a success. Tomorrow will be that much easier to do. Making progress everyday, no matter how small, will get you to your goal. Consistency is key here and the rest will come.
3. CONTROL YOUR ENVIRONMENT
Tidy up your home, make lunches and do whatever else needs to be done the night before. You want to eliminate any and every excuse that could hold you back from your work out schedule. Set yourself up for success and plan ahead. If you're going for a run, set out your clothes and running shoes by your bed so all you have to do is put them on and go. If you're working out at home, fill up your water bottle and get your skipping rope and weights ready. Prepare - Where are you working out? Will you listen to music? Do you need a yoga mat? Get yourself organized so there is no question of what you need to do when you wake up. You simply wake up and are ready to go.
4. HAVE A PLAN -
Are you going for a run or are you working out with a video? Having a predetermined plan of what your work out will look like will help you 'just do it' and will eliminate the excuse of "I was trying to find something to do and an hour went by". The last thing you want to have to do in the morning is make decisions on what you need to do. Check out YouTube, join a fitness forum or get creative with your own favourite moves. Whatever you chose, plan ahead.
5. KEEP TRACK
Keep a workout journal. Jot down your workout, your times, reps, what you eat in a day, include anything you want. Journaling your progress will keep you motivated and accountable - to yourself. When you write something down, you can measure your progress over time. Nothing is more motivating than beating your own previous time or reps. Note how you feel, what you want to achieve or what your goals are.
